I don't think having a poopy diaper for one day is a big deal. But for a 5 day old, i'm not sure, just ask the doc. I know my 3 mo, old doesn't poo everyday and it's normal, especiall breastfed babies not to go everyday . There's less solid waste in breastmilk as opposed to formula.

it is perfectly normal. breast feed babies tend to have healthier appetites my youngest daughter is 5 months now and when she was first born she did the same thing to me that your baby is doing to u. just make sure u keep track of what time he feeds and how much he eats, u don't want him to get sick or anything. and a tip, for new borns u want to give them more breast milk less formula (at least for the first 4 months) the more u breastfeed the less receptive the baby will be to sicknesses and diseases.
as for the second question, non-poopie diapers aren't usually a major concern unless the baby hasn't pooped in over 2 days. as long as the baby makes wet diapers, his perfectly healthy.
i hope this helps. congratulations and good luck.
by the way i forgot to mention drink plenty of water and eat plenty throughout the day. breast feeding is a beautiful thing but it can take a lot out of a new mommie. also breastfeed babies can feed as much as they want for the first couple of weeks after birth don't put them on a schedule right away.

First, breast feeding and bottle feeding is going to be self-defeating in the breast milk production area if you keep it up. If it were me, I would supplement only just before bedtime and the rest of the time let your breast milk keep up with the demand. Supplementing will lower your milk production down to nothing - FAST.
Second, no poopy diaper is probably a result of the formula. Breast milk goes through the digestive tract well since it is tailor made especially for your baby, and there is no such thing as constipation when feeding only breast milk. Step up the breast feedings and see if this helps move things on through.
Third, don't worry if nothing happens. You've got a lovely big healthy boy there and no poo in a 24-hour period is not gonna kill him. :)

Not everyone, and that includes babies, have bowel movements every day. Some have 2 or more a day, some go 2 or more days without one.
It's nothing to be worried about unless it goes beyond 2 days, then it's time to check with the doctor. Since you are seeing the doctor, then you will already know before you read this.
As for how much he eats? It's been too long ago since I have fed my babies (one 35 and one 29 now) so I have also long since forgotten how much they eat from time to time.
Good luck.

he is a big baby so he will probably eat a lot. about the poopy diaper, you have nothing to worry about, some babies, especially breast fed babies may go a whole week without going, as long as he is having wet diapers he is okay. and congrats. :)

i'm under the impression you are bottlefeeding brest milk....if that is the case, then i'd say it's fine...he's big so he's gonna eat a lot, and often. when i pumped he eat quite a few ounces at a feeding, and it's so hard to judge how much they are getting from you to be able to compare. so long as you don't starve him, i'm sure he's a full, content baby. big eaters tend to be very healthy babies, consider yourself lucky.
if he is primarily breastfed it is quite common for no poop but once or twice a week. relax and enjoy your precious boy.
congrats!!

Peanut is right.Drop the formula now if you really want to breastfeed because your milk will disapear quick. Also formula will constipate a baby and breastmilk usually wont so that may be why he hasnt pooped but its not a problem yet..

I am not sure how much formula he should eat at a time, my daughter was breastfed only. But as for pooping, unless your doctor is concerned, try not to freak out about it. My daughter's pediatrician said that they don't necessarily have to go everyday, adults don't always go everyday was the way he explained it.

Absolutely---stop bothering with the formula --breastfeeding just gets easier and easier as the baby gets older, where as bottle feeding just gets fussier and more of pain ,not to mention the cost to your babies' health and the cost to your pocketbook!
... anyways...Congratulations!
