Probably the best place to start is the medical board for your state, but that really doesn't give you all the information. Many lawsuits are settled before trial for amounts that keep it out of public databases. More importantly, though, just because a physician has been sued doesn't mean they did something wrong or they are a bad physician. There are many lawsuits that are brought simply because of tragic circumstances where family members are looking to blame someone. The fact of the matter is that most physicians are sued at least a couple of times during their careers.
Unfortunately, people forget that physicians are human and medicine is not perfect--we can't cure everything, and we don't know everything.
