My girlfriend recently challenged me to get out of a full nelson wresting hold. I'm much stronger (she can't bend my neck), but know nothing about wrestling and couldn't do it within the time limit. Any suggestions?

Also: Instinctively I tried raising my arms and dropping. This didn't work because she dropped too.
Also: Stepping on toes, breaking fingers, hitting in head, etc. may generally be good strageties, but this is my girlfriend. No permanent damage allowed.

--If we take your Details at face value, then you can power out of your girlfriend's Full Nelson easily...just keep your head up when she applies the hold, breathing in and pushing your chest out to get room. Then when she "gets her hooks in" or cinches the hold "tightly", tuck your chin, breathe out, and *suddenly* force your arms and hands, down and forward, straight out in front of your chest. Like doing a bench press.
Keep in mind this will hurt. The Full Nelson works because it uses your shoulders to get a ton of leverage on your neck, so if you don't cheat the wiggle room a little as described above, all your escape attempts *will* add to the pressure on your neck. Not to mention, your girlfriend's arms will be sore from holding you in place. So "getting out at any price" just might not be the right answer here.
I mean, it's your *girlfriend* and you are *wrestling*. If you two are both consenting adults, and not out in public, the question begs asking: what are you two *still* doing *dressed*? ;)
--If you are fudging on your Details, which honestly sounds likely, and just saying you are "stronger" than your girl when you mean you are bigger....here is what you do.
When she gets the hold locked in, *bend over*. Get her off of her feet. Then slowly and gently (because she *is* your girl), back into the nearest wall, and use your superior size to slowly stand back up and *pin her* there. Unless she is a total lifter or something, she won't have the leverage to keep up the hold for too long under those conditions (pinned backfirst to a wall, and off of her feet). Plus pinning her to the wall will also take her weight and strength off of your neck and give you more wiggle room....
Just remember. She is your girl, and you are *wrestling*. Don't hurt her, the fact that she is in close contact with you is a GOOD thing. ;)

As Darrell Craig Sensei mentions in his excellent book on jujitsu... from memory...
A full nelson is normally thought of as an unbreakable hold .. but that is just because you both are following the rules.
First .. try very hard not to be placed in the hold in the first place.
Second..
The best ways to get out of a full nelson would then aftwards entail that you would probably lose your friend. and sparing partner.
He mentions that the best response to a full nelson is to reach up and first break a finger or two .. immediately execute a gut strike, and then execute an over the shoulder throw. If breaking their finger does NOT get their attention .. you have other BAD problems.
enjoy

By physical properties, men (mostly) are heavier than women. In a full nelson, the victim is usually held slightly above the doer. In the peak of the full nelson action, swing yourself as fast as you can into one side. This would make the doer off-balance(since doing a full nelson requires doer to be still and stable) then you can go and be free.

All that have answered this question are wrong, they are genreally the same move but the Master Lock is defined as a ' Swinging Full Nelson' so he puts more pressure on while doing the hold but there is no difference on how you apply them. THE MASTER LOCK IS A SWINGING FULL NELSON! Masters will swing the opponent making it harder for them to escape it. Hope I helped,

Tuck your shoulders in backward. this will allow your arms to straighten and you slide down and out of the full nelson.

Throw your right leg forward, stiff and straight, and then vigorously bring it back (with your right hand) behind BOTH your opponent's legs (his/her left one will be the nearer), while bending your body (spine) to your right, which will create the space needed to not bang into opponent's left leg/knee/foot/toe whatever. This will put you suddenly pretty much behind him, as he was to you, and you should ride him down face first if you can, as he would have done to you. This technique is pretty easy to learn, and works better, if you can believe it, on bigger (taller/stronger) opponents. If they know it's coming, obviously it's tougher, and you definitely want to do this whilst still on two feet.
