i'm 13 year old and i have a hero and she's 19. She's really like a sister to me but i'm afarid to tell her that part, but she knows she's my hero. But any who, I have already started my period. But i want to ask her how old she was when she did. I dont wanna sound weird, and it's really hard for me to talk about things like this. But i want to break the wall down about this kind of stuff with her, and be able to talk to her about it. If you know what i mean, because i cant talk to my mom about it. But i was wondering if anyone knew anyways to ask, because i'm pretty nervous. Any experiences?

If I had a girl your age feel comfortable enough with me to ask me about her first period I'd be very flattered and I bet she will too. Why don't you just tell her you just started your period, you're nervous, and you wondered if she had any advice for dealing with it?? Tell her you feel a lot more comfortable talking to someone who's been through this more recently than say, your mom. It's great you have someone you can talk to, keep the lines of communication open because I have a feeling you'll have a lot more you want to talk to her about in the coming years. lol Take care sweetie!

I can understand you being scared about asking another female about YOUR body. But, no matter what age, color, or religion, we ALL have the same parts. And if I am not mistaken, they all work alike also. Tell her this, "I need to talk to you about something but I don't want you to think I am weird. It is new to me and I feel more comfortable talking to you than I do my mom. It's about my body maturing." I am pretty sure that would be the best way to go. Good Luck.

Don't be so afraid to ask something as simple as that! I always talk to all my girlfriends about things like these. Who else then, is going to help us? Because your mom doesn't seem very opened. Just be sure that this person is smart and educated enough to answer your questions with good knowledge. Or you may try to read about it first. Good Luck!!

Hun, just talk to her, she will understand. I wish you felt like you could talk to your mom also. I hope that my daughter feels like she can talk to me about these things when she is that age.
