Is this way of communicating just an easy way for people to take a pop at each other,or to vent all their unhappiness and frustrations onto other people?

The Internet allows us to seek out people like ourselves, for better and for worse. Before the Internet, most people suppressed parts of themselves that were socially unacceptable or different. With the Internet and a few clicks of the mouse, we can instantly connect with others who like us.

This is both good and bad. This connectivity is good because we all need to feel normal and "ok" despite our dark sides. We don't have to feel so alone in the world. Perhaps we are able to find others who have questioned a religion they were brought up in, just as we did. Perhaps we find others who can't get Brainy Smurf out of their minds! This can be a positive, fun and rewarding experience.

However, connecting with our dark sides can be bad because we may delve more deeply into our unhealthy addictions. Interests can easily become obsessions. Accessibility to anything and everything is too much of a temptation for some of us. Our worst impulses are satisfied too easily. And, we surely shouldn’t feel normal about some of our darker behaviors.

The anonymity of the Internet allows us to role-play, to temporarily ignore our ethics and values, to explore parts of ourselves we perhaps never would. To the degree we hurt others and ourselves with this exploration, the Internet is a bad thing. To the degree we are better able to accept ourselves as being unique yet normal, the Internet is a good thing (not to mention the amazing capabilities to find information, to connect, to make the world a smaller place).

If a person is predisposed to stupidity, and acting like a jackadz, then there's not much you can do, and the net just makes it easier for them to express themselves, no matter how badly.
But, if a person is disposed to act well to those around him/her, then they will act the same..
That's one reason why people like me like to come here and answer these questions..

I think alot of people hide who there true selves on the internet. They try and act or be more aggressive or do things and say things they would otherwise be to scared or ashamed to say in person. it's sad to me that someone has to hide to be themselves.

of course it is, the anonymity is great for spouting off. separating the legit stuff from the crap, like people being angry, is the biggest consumer of internet searching time i find
