You will probably have pain on one side or the other, but the only way to know for sure is an ultrasound examination done in a physician's office or hospital.
A small cyst is common and normal every month, and then they go away, I believe those are called functional cysts. Cysts that stay and cause pain and get bigger can be a sign of polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is an endocrine disorder and then you've got other problems.
It's best to see a doctor and see if indeed a cyst exists, and if so, what the best course of treatent will be.
