A widget is found in a lager or Guinness can. It is shaped like a child's small spinning top. It is transparent plastic. It is shaped in this way so that when the drink is poured out of the can, over the widget, the drink has a proper 'head' of froth that looks right - no more than that!

A "widget" is nothing. The term "widget" is used to demonstrate something while learning about business or economics. They needed a name.

In the business world, when business concepts are being discussed, often the word "widget" is used when no product in particular is being discussed, but a noun is needed to carry the generic discussion.

There is no product that I am aware of that is called a "widget".
