Who was the first to say, "hey, i think i'll put hundreds of care-free, energetic, horny, bored youth into the same building, give them complete freedom aside from attending classes they will completely DISPISE, and call it university!"??? And WHY did they let it happen???

i think either you are making some sort of a lighthearted joke or you're basically there on mommy and daddies dime. You might be surprised what some people are willing to do to afford such a wonderful mess.
Recommended action: take your 20s off from school. See the world.

How many people are actually PUT into university I wonder. Perhaps you have a point; is materialistic pursuit really first nature, the social priority. That would explain your degradation.

I don't think the origins of any university had that in mind when it was founded. Chances are the students who first attended didn't either.

College is what you make of it: what are you doing with your time? It's totally your choice. I agree with jorluke: if you're not getting anything out of college (and your questions suggests that), then please leave and do something you consider constructive--and save your parents' money. So many people would love to get an education and cannot afford it. Welcome to semi-adulthood: make choices that work for you.
