It will tend to dry out you skin and hair more than soft water. Also it's hard to work up a lather from soap so you'll probably use twice as much soap in hard water and it usually makes much more "soap scum" to be left in the sink or tub. If you are doing laundry that "soap scum" can damage the color and feel of your clothes.

We have hard water where I live. It builds up on everyting from your sinks, toilets, bathtubs, pipes, etc and it is hard to remove. It is like a mineral buildup.
Our water tastes terrible.
When you shower, wash your hair or do lanundry you need to use more product because hard water is harder to clean with.
Soft water keeps your hair in better condition since it doesn't get that mineral buildup.
