I think you're looking for the word "soupcon," a word that definitely has French roots. It comes from the French verb meaning to suspect or have an inkling of, but is often used in English. You pronounce it "soo-sohn" (the /p/ is not pronounced, and the n at the end is not emphasized) and it means a hint or trace (of something - link a soupcon of mint, of mystery...you name it).

Spelt soupcon (the c has a little 5 character beneath it), pronounced soup-s-on, it means to have a little of something.

As it is say souson, this does mean a little, but be careful if you say soupson, it means lovebite!!

Living here in France there are many words that we see and say as they are written, often getting it wrong and either getting a laugh or offending!

I don't know how to explain how to say the word but it means a small amount, a pinch, like a hint...

Soupson is the closest way to say it in english.
