According to Bruce Springsteen, who wrote the song, Manfred Mann says "douche" and that's why their version went to #1 and his did not, even though he released his version first.

Blinded By The Light Lyrics
by Manfred Mann's Earth Band

Madman drummer bummers
Indians in the summer
With a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps
His way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder
Feeling kinda older
I tripped a merry-go-round
With the very unpleasing
Sneezing and wheezing
The calliope crashed to the ground

CHORUS

Blinded by the light
Wrapped up like a deuce
Another runner in the night
Blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tight
She's gonna make it through the night
Some silicone sister
With her manager mister
Told me I've got what it takes
She said, I'll turn you on sonny to something strong
Play the song with the funky break
And go-kart Mozart
Was checking out the weather chart
To see if it was safe outside
And little Early Pearly
Came by in her curly-wurly
And asked me if I needed a ride

CHORUS

Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun
'Cause mama, that's where the fun is
Some brimstone baritone
Anticyclone rolling stone
Preacher from the east
Says dethrone the dictaphone
Hit it in the funnybone
That's where they expect it least
And some new mown chaperone
Was standing in the corner
Watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone
Was playing with his frozen zone
Reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground

CHORUS

Kristi M's answer is correct. Manfred Mann changed Bruce's song from deuce to douche. It's Revved up like a douche.

Some websites even post the lyrics wrong.

kristi m and grudgrime are CORRECT!

Whether Manfred Mann meant to say duece or not, it came out as douche.

Springsteen tells the story of this song and Manfred Mann's release of it very well on VH1 Storytellers, as cited by kristi m.

On this issue, I'll back kristi m, grudgrime and most importantly, The Boss.

Wrapped up like a "duece", Ha! That was funny...

Although this was made popular by the South African group Manfred Mann, the song was written by Burce Springsteen.

No, but Manfred Mann never could speak

Blinded by the light, cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night." ("Deuce" refers to a '32 Ford Deuce Coupe.) Many listeners incorrectly hear the word "douche" in place of "deuce."

Wrapped up like a douce, in the middle of the night. Not douche, an age old song misunderstanding.

No. The correct lyrics he sings are "Cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night ".

Some websites say the correct lyrics is "Crapped out like a deuce" which makes more sense.
