1) Objects less dense float to the top of fluids more dense. Wood and oil are both less dense than water and both float on water.

2) Lumber-jacked trees are often floated down river to a mill. A helium balloon from a birthday party floats in air. Many of the valves in the tanks of toilets use a float to stop the water from overflowing the tank. Similarly a carburetor often contains a float valve to control the amount of gasoline which enters.

3) Floatation relates to a solid, liquid or gas in relation to a fluid. The fluid may be either a liquid or a gas. (see examples above).

1) The higher density object with large volume would float( also depends on the density of the medium it would float on)
