I will be visiting Japan soon. What are some things that I should buy while I am there that you can't easily get in the US? I'm especially interested in electronics and food but would be open to any suggestions.

PS3, carmcorder and camera usually they are aleast 6 months ahead. video game can be good idea if u had a jap system. if u sword fan get japan made katana is trutly unique, not those ebay cheap crap. katana is japan national treasure item just like panda as precious in china. well food.. if u wanna try diff then go to those japanese local small restaurant they mostly serce pure japanese food and often not serve in the u,s. like the frog shasimi, live frog hearth, all chicken part, turtle etc.. i know sound gross but is differnt expereice also make u try the Toyko X Beed if trutly top of the class in steak but cost alot of $.

Take your yens and go to Asakusa. Next advice. Do not buy in the tourist section, visit the small alleys for cheap and more original stuff. Electronic gadgets is a must.

I recommend that you buy "Mingei-gungu". It's like a Japanese classical traditional toy. While I was living in the US, I never saw them.
It's cute and beautiful, what's more cheap. You put them in your house as a interior accessory and distribute to your friends as a souveniors.

And electronics is also good. There are so many electronics shops at Akihabara in Tokyo. You get items that you cann't get in the US.

Go to the Sony building in Tokyo. You can find the most advanced gadgets there and they won't be out in the U.S. for at least a year or more. It's either in Ginza or Tokyo. I can't remember.
