The United States would be an example.

Originally a colony of England who appointed Governors to rule the lands (instead of letting people vote for them), made taxes without redress of the people. The people had not representives nor could they send one back to England to represent them.

As a result the colonists started a resistance movement to wake up the powers that be in England. The colonists refused to "buy" stamps for things (a tax, still used today on ciagrettes and liqour and,of course, postage). When a shipment of tea was sent in with a new tax on it they boarded the ship and dumped the tea into the ocean.

They made many attempts to petition the King of England and Parliment for redress and action on these matters and go nowhere with King and Country.

The King sent troops to help quiet this resistance and that made things ever worse.

Little by little people, cities and even regions (or what we now call states) were strating to grumble and then eventually began talk of declaring Indepence from England and establishing a free nation.

This culminated in 1776 in Philadelphia where they put the declaration together by committe and then assigned writing it to Thomas Jefferson, with added touches by others. It was signed and circlated to the regions for approval and then sent to the King of England.

Well, you need to first identify the resistance movement. A resistance movement is usually composed of different groups who in most cases might even have different goals but realize that if they come together and fight or voice out their opposition, then a government, an institution or whatever the target is might be removed or deposed from power . This might take the form of an armed effort or a peaceful demonstration.
