Why? And if you don't like it. What would you use instead?

I find it a bit pejorative. The term chick in itself doesn't feel good in my ears. I think Women's literature, of Feminine Fiction, as was proposed above, would fit better.

Not that I'm a big read of that genre, but I don't like that women who do enjoy it are being looked down on for reading "chick lit". In my mind, any book that a person enjoys is a good book, and I dislike when some people look down on a certain type of books, just because it doesn't suit them.

Just my thoughts,

Is that like chick flick? Why must it be categorized? Once we put that label on it, does it not take on a negative connotation? Does it mean that only women will like the literature? Might it turn men off from reading it because it might deal with issues important or interesting to women?
I say the less labels the better in giving something a fair shot of being enjoyed by all.

Don't really like the term. But the market which is is used for definitely exists! I'd say Light Fiction or, although not much better, Feminine Fiction because it gets rid of the "Chick"

I really like it! I think it describes perfectly the sort of material that falls under it. I love Chick Lit, it's just like it sounds, fun, adventurous and exciting!

I think it's a great term! It is very appropriate for its genre and it is very clear. Another term I like is Dick Lit, and I wish there were more books of that genre.

The gum tastes like ****, but the genre is great! I am always satisfied with chick lit.
You obviously know what you are getting into, its a bit typecast--- if you will. Definitely sexist, but there is nothing wrong with that.

I think it's perfect! When you hear "Chick Lit" you know exactly what it means, exactly what you are getting in that book.

I, personally, hate the genre. It sets expectations on women that are impossible to live up to, and is basically all trash. I don't think I would use anything instead, just get rid of it entirely. It's too sexist and immediately makes me think of Paris Hilton and other '"role models".

It makes me think of fun, light reading for women. I look for things with that label when I need some brain candy, not heavy reading.
