This is the question asked in my class: Mr Johnson read that cholesterol is bad for his health so he eliminated all foods and food products containing this molecule. His cholesterol level only dropped 20%. Why did it not drop more? I'm sure it has something to do with good and bad cholestoral but I'm not really sure.

You body makes cholesterol from other things found in food, particularly fats. This is then stored to be used later on as energy. The amount you make from those foods is even genetically controlled. All dietary cholesterol doesn't end up in your blood stream, either.

OUr bodies need cholesterol. Cholesterol from our diet is only one way we get it. Our bodies also produce it. Some people are genetically predisposed to high cholesterol; reducing the amount they eat only has a marginal effect.
In order to reduce further, exercise is needed, and perhaps medication. Also, 1-2 glasses of wine per day have been shown to lower cholesterol, too.
The good cholestrol (HDL) should be as high as possible. Its the LDL and triglycerides that have negative health effects.

your liver makes cholesterol as it is essential to the body in small amounts, mr johnson would have to take an HMG-CoA inhibitor like zocor or lipitor to get his cholesterol down further

sugar is what makes you fat... not dietary fat. mayo actually contains healthy fats, its the bread, pastries, potatoes, soft drinks (basically any drink except water) is what is gonna make you fat... so frozen yogurt belongs in that catagory because it has lots of sugar... SUGAR (carbohydrates) is the enemy... and for me personally my diet is made up of 60% fat and i eat lots of pork and hamburgers... so get ur info right before you do some weird diet... for the most part tho for you its good that u stick to leaner meats, but its sugar thats gonna keep you fat
