Eastern Europe (Croatia, Poland and Hungary) are generally less expensive than Western Europe. That said, with careful planning, you can design a good value holiday for your family.

Choosing the right hotels is especially import. One reason we love the Hotel delle Muse in Rome, Italy is that the cost of complete, delicious dinners is a mere 15 euro per person.

Happy holidays!

Germany is a great place to go that time of year. Especially the southern part which is also known as Bavaria. I stayed in Munich twice and both times found very clean, economically inexpensive pensions to stay at. It's a quick trip by train (2-3 hours) to visit Salzburg, Austria, where the Sound of Music was filmed and they still have tours of all the famous spots. In another direction is Neuschawnstein (sp?) castle, which is the most beautiful place which Walt Disney based Cinderella's castle at Disneyland/World upon. Not sure if it would be open in the colder time of year, but the Englisher Garten is one of the the biggest botanical parks in Europe.

If you want to make Munich your base, you can take all kinds of day trips to surrounding areas, but there is plenty to do in Munich as well. Have fun!
