I made the choice to cut down on caffeine. I learned of the importance and how it affected my babies nervous system. I was told no more than 2 cups of a coffee each day and to really limit caffeinated pops, etc. I was a real coffee drinker so initially I felt the effects. So I am sure that my baby was much better for the cutdown. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I tried to limit the caffeine to about 1 beverage a day (some days I didn't consume anything, and the entire 1st trimester I didn't consume any just b/c I was so sick). My doc said as long as I wasn't consuming an entire pot of coffee every day I was fine, and I occasionally like a good caffeinated beverage... especially when I was having my occasional headache or migraine, which caffeine seems to assist in getting rid of; or needed a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

When I started having an irritable uterus at 30wks, I cut it out entirely to see if that would help my contractions... it didn't :) So I went back to my one a day in the last couple of weeks now that I'm nearing the end anyways.

I feel like it was the right amount, because I don't go through caffeine withdrawal on days when I don't consume any - this was my main target.

Good luck!

I've read several things that say you should limit your caffiene intake, and have even read some things that say it decreases the chance of miscarries to avoid it.

However, you are in your second trimester now so you are probably pretty safe as far as that is concerned.

My doctor told me no more than 2 cups of coffee or small glasses of soda a day. I'm not much of a caffiene person, so I just avoid it all together just to be on the safe side.

So, in a nutshell, I would say it's okay in moderation.

I cut out ALL caffine. I'm not sure if it made much of a difference but i do know that i did what was best for my baby and it did put my mind at ease. I didnt have to think...well am i harming her? what r the effects? I just didnt do it and i feel great about my decision. My daughter is now 5.5 months old.

They said not to cut your caffene you can just cut it down to about 1 soda a day. the reason why is its not that good for the baby. and who knows wether or not it will effect your child but dont u love your child and want the best then cut down a bit if u normaly have a soda and coffee cut down a bit.
I did for the first 4 months long enought to get everything it needed.
B/c the first couple of months are most important b/c it needs all the nutician it can get and caffene dont really get much nutrician from it.

I still was drinking caffeine when I was pregnant. I just didn't purchase cases of soda for the house anymore. If I went out and I wanted a mocha frapachino, I had one. If I wanted a Dr. Pepper, I had it. I don't think it made a difference. I think caffeine during pregnancy is the least of my worries.

I used to love my morning coffees. They were the highlight of my work day. It was like a religion to stop at the store for a coffee each morning before catching the bus. And then one morning, I just really didnt want one...4 weeks later I found out I was preggie. Now with my second pregnancy, I try to drink coffee but after a few sips I just really dont want it anymore. My body tells me not to, you may be different but I sort of figure that if my body says no so stubbornly to coffee, maybe it isnt good for a pregnancy

My OB told me to limit my intake to 1 small caffeinated drink per day, and I pretty much stuck with it. However, toward the end of my pregnancy, I had a "venti" from Starbucks and I totally felt it. The baby didn't seem to notice a difference. I think it was the fact that I wasn't used to it!

Congrats.

I didn't cut out caffeine completely but I settled for a cup of coffee a day or/ and a coke at work.

I think moderation is the key but, I also think it's a little bit blown out of proportion.

I didnt with either child but I only had iced tea and soda. not much of a coffee drinker to begin with but I drink anywhere from 1-4 a day with water and juice in between. My kids are completly normal. one was 7lbs 6oz and this one (due 12 days) is over 8lbs. I think you will be ok as long as you dont drink 4 starbucks a day lol. That stuff will get anyone all crazy!
