the room is kinda dull, even with posters, any ideas of how i could decorate using colored construction paper?

Before you start, make sure you use an adhesive that is water soluble or use Poster Gum so you don't damage the walls. That said, I would use alternating colors in a repeating sequence with 4 to 6 different colors. I would cut the paper in 1/4 inch strips about 3/4th of the way up the long side of the paper and overlap each row starting from bottom to top like roof shingles to create a fringed look. When your room catches a breeze it will give it a ripple effect. Maybe stick with your school colors to show your team spirit.

why colored paper?? Just paint the walls. 3 sides same color the other side a different color ofcourse with contrast. then you 'll see that the room has refreshed and enlarged
