For me, Elvin Jones is in a class by himself. He is the most unique of all drummers and is on many great albums.
I also like Dannie Richmond, Al Harewood and Billy Higgins a lot. Tony Williams is another creative great drummer.
Today's best are Dafnis Prieto and Ari Hoenig, in my opinion.

Billy Cobham (of the Mahavishnu Orchestra)
After him might be Jack DeJohnette and Tony Williams.

Tony Williams was and always will be my favorite. He died in 1997 and was widely considered one of the greatest jazz drummers of all time.

The drummer in my band, Robin. She's phenominal. Robin can do any style of music you ask her to and steal any show if you let her. She could even give Buddy Rich a run for his money.
