The U.S. military in Iraq has imprisoned an Associated Press photographer for five months, accusing him of being a security threat but never filing charges or permitting a public hearing.

Hey, old fart, how the hell do you know if he is / was a sympathiser if there is no trial?
The sooner people like you die off the better the world will be.

I'm not sure how the US gets away with that. Is there anything in the Geneva Convention about it?

I would take this idea a bit further - especially since I have no "boss" to make me behave appropriately. I would be suspicious the guy was using his job to gain access where he might otherwise not be granted any. He works for AP but was born in Fallujah, which doesn't make him a terrorist but makes me suspicous of any possible ulterior motives. Lives are at steak!

Quick excerpt:
The U.S. military said Hussein was captured with two insurgents, including Hamid Hamad Motib, an alleged leader of al-Qaida in Iraq. "He has close relationships with persons known to be responsible for kidnappings, smuggling, improvised explosive device (IED) attacks and other attacks on coalition forces," according to a May 7 e-mail from U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Jack Gardner, who oversees all coalition detainees in Iraq.

"The information available establishes that he has relationships with insurgents and is afforded access to insurgent activities outside the normal scope afforded to journalists conducting legitimate activities," Gardner wrote to AP International Editor John Daniszewski.

The AP has worked quietly until now, believing that would be the best approach. But with the U.S. military giving no indication it would change its stance, the news cooperative has decided to make public Hussein's imprisonment, hoping the spotlight will bring attention to his case and that of thousands of others now held in Iraq, Curley said.

That Hussein was captured at the same time as insurgents does not make him one of them, said Kathleen Carroll, AP's executive editor.

I feel this approach by the AP is typical news-blah. I would expect nothing less!

I guess he should count his lucky stars he was a prisoner instead of a casualty. I can't see where it would ever be great to be a Yankee, I've seen the north the Yankee's deserve to live there.

If he is a member of the media, he most likely was a security threat.....

The media has NO PLACE in a war zone... they are a threat....

The main aim/goal/agenda when fighting a WAR is to WIN.... that is all that matters... especially a war against Muslim terrorists...

When nearly all Muslims refuse to speak out in public against Muslim terrorism, it lleaves me with only one thought, maybe two... first: those who do not speak out against the Muslim terrorism are in favor of it and are supporters of it.... second: there is the slight chance that they are afraid to speak out.... Muslims, like communists, kill those aligned against their agenda.....
