I am 6 weeks and 3 days along and they are doing my first unltrasound tomarrow to detect what they can. What all do they find on your 6 week ultrasound or what are they all checking for? Can they find the heartbeat?

If you are six weeks a heartbeat is not usual actually typically you wont hear one at all until 12 weeks at the earliest. What alot of mothers hear and doctors don't correct them on because it isn't worth breaking their smiles over is that the sound they often hear is the placenta blood traveling through the cord and it's her heartbeat here she is hearing.

At 6 weeks they will measure the fetus for size and growth- look for spinal development and beginings of arms/legs. They usually use this sonogram to revamp your due date since the size at this point should give them a conception date within a week or two of it's occurance.

Typically you'll get a picture of the baby's head since the skull is the most notable easily seen bone structure available now. They are also checking for your placenta placement- if it's low or high so they can watch for later signs if the baby will require a c-section because of where the placenta is located. (this is where the cord attaches and fetus began development. If it covers the cervix you must deliver by c-section.

Yes, they will detect a heartbeat on this early ultrasound. I had an early ultrasound with my second baby (I'm on #5 now) and I was bleeding at that point so the doctor wanted to check out if the baby was still there. He was. All I could see was a round little bunch of cells and I think the egg sac.

The transvaginal u/s isn't that comfortable but it's not the worst thing in the world. You'll do fine.

Good luck and congratulations!

First of all, there is a good chance that NO, they will not find a heartbeat. At six weeks, you probably won't see your baby at all. The only thing that they'll probably be able to see is the gestational sac and perhaps the yolk sac. They basically do the ultrasound to make sure the baby is in the right spot, i.e. not in your fallopian tubes, etc.

Congrats!

I had a transvaginal and i had severe carmping after each on of my'n . but i was 6 weeks and didnt hear a heartbeat until around 7 wk 5 days.
they check for a positive pregnacy for one, to see how far along u are for sure to see wether u have a gestational sac there , or just a yok sac or see if they see the baby yet or a heartbeat.

The vaginal ultrasound is not bad at all. They are looking for size and heart beat of the baby. You will see a guppy with the heart going quickly. It is amazing. I first saw my baby at 5 weeks and could not believe that I could see her heart beating. What an amazing experience you are about to go through. Good luck and congrats.

You will be able to see the heartbeat! It is the neatest thing. I just had one done 2 weeks ago. The want to make sure the baby is prob in the right place and is ok.

if the don't find the heartbeat then there is a problem. they are just checking the size and position of the fetus to ensure everything is going alright.

I had a vaginal ultrasoud at 5-1/2 weeks...I could see a sac, and a beating heart only...I had one early because I was on clomid, and they wanted to see if there was more than one baby.
