Okay, I'm not a scientist or an engineer, so this will be pretty simplistic. A oven cooks food by raising the temperature of the chamber and cooking the food from the outside in. A microwave does not generate heat. It bombard the chamber with microwave energy that works like sound waves that affects the water molecules of items the beams pass through, producing heat. This, more or less, cooks the food from the inside out, but it affects areas with higher water content faster so, cooking is not always even unless the item is turned or stirred. That is why, when you put a bread product in a microwave and cook it too long or eat it slowly it becomes hard. The moisture from area that has been greatly depleted.

An oven cooks by direct heat. There are elements in your oven (top and bottom) that raise the temperature of the oven to the desired level. Then you put whatever it is you want cooked in the oven and leave it there until it reaches that level. Sometimes you can tell when this happens through surface browning, other times you have to set it for a certain amount of time to make sure the food cooks all the way through.
Microwave, on the other hand, does not have heating elements. It bombards the food and agitates the molecules, which causes heat in the food and that is what cooks it.
Microwave ovens are usually much faster than conventional ovens, because anything that contains fat absorbs the rays and gets hot really fast. On the other hand, cooking something like rice in a microwave takes about the same time (or sometimes longer) than conventional cooking because you are dealing with something that is 99% carbohydrate and that doesn't absorb the rays well.

Why can't people do research before they answer. All these people are WRONG. Microwaves use shortened radioactive waves to irradiate the thermal particles in foodto heat it. Microwave ovens are miniature versions of a real oven, and they use heat coils to heat food. You can't boil anything in them, but you can heat stuff. They are literally mini ovens. They are two TOTALLY different things, and people who said they are the same obviously have never used one. I just wish people could care about their answers and not give people bad information. I really think you'd be better off doing the research yourself, because people will give you horrible answers, and you can't do a thing about it. Be careful on this site.

a regular oven uses electricty flowing though large cables inside the oven to heat up food. A microwave oven has a small box in it that contains a mechanism that creates microwaves that vibrate the water molicules in your food. The friction makes the food get hot.
