On one hand, we think it's not much different than watching the lights on her mobile and on the other I have a concern about her "watching" TV at such an early age. Any thoughts?

Again, she's just 3 months -- so I doubt she really understands what's going on...

For those citing surveys and studies, links would be good. I've googled some of these words and haven't seen anything concrete to support what you're saying.

The recommendation is to not allow TV watching until 2 years old. The reason as I understand it is this: Images on TV change very rapidly. If you pay attention to the number of scene/perspective changes in 1 minute of programming, it can change up to 30 times. Commercials are worse, sometimes with a cut every second or so. Infants' eyes and brain require much more time to focus on an image and comprehend it -- a couple minutes is good. TV just doesn't work that way. Once in a while so you can grab a quickie shower isn't going to hurt, but allowing an infant to watch TV on any kind of regular basis *will* change their brain structure. That one's been proven in studies.

I'm sure she doesn't really know what she is watching. Babies this age often find something they like to watch whether it's a ceiling fan, or light fixture, Christmas Tree lights, etc. I don't think it's bad for her except you will want to make sure she is not too close to the TV. I would also start investing in some children's videos. I suggest the children's videos not because I think you have her watching something inappropriate on TV (or that she would even comprehend what is inappropriate), but the makers of children's videos -- especially those geared for the very youngest viewers like your daughter -- work really hard to have sounds, colors, and lights that will attract them and stimulate their developing brains.

i and alot of my friends with babys are not letting our kids watch TV b/c AAP (amreaican academy of Pediatrics) says its not best. During the first 2 years, a critical time for brain development, TV can get in the way of exploring, learning, and spending time interacting and playing with parents and others, which helps young children develop the skills they need to grow cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally.
look on line there is a ton of info about it.
Good luck!

Tv is good as long as its educational. I never let my girls watch the junk on tv. It had to be something that helps them develop like mozart etc. there are some really great shows on tv for little ones i think its the baby channel.

I have a friend who won't let her 5 month old son watch TV because she read somewhere that it causes ADD. (I laughed at this in my head.) I think that it is stimulating to them and as long as the child is propped up in front of the TV for hours at a time that it doesn't hurt them any, if it is a quality children's program.

Doctors recommend you don't let kids watch TV under 2 years old, of course that's sometimes hard to do. I wouldn't let her look at it for long periods of time, because it could affect her developing eyes.

There is nothing wrong with it. My 3 month old son does it too. Your daughter isn't really "watching" it as she doesn't know what exactly she is seeing. All she knows is that their are lots of bright lights and colors!
Just let her enjoy it.

My son is 3 mo. old and he has always enjoyed looking at the tv. i don't think there are issues with it and if it keeps them entertained and you can watch whatever you want, becasue they really don't know what is on the tv. GREAT! That's what I think anyways.
