Because humans are irrational beings, still ruled largely by their emotions and instincts. There are a few of us who have found enlightenment, and for those few, the Golden Rule is simply par for the course--a given. The rest of humanity, though, still has some growing up to do. Still largely an immature species, clever though we are.

Because they are Arrogant and hurtful. The don't think about the consequences of their actions before the do so. They are missing out on a great book called The Bible.

Because when they to them they don't think about consequences. They get carried away with the moment and don't stop to think what it would feel like to be walking on the other person's shoes.
