When I am stopped at a light, it jerks like it is trying to go. Sometimes it almost dies when I push on the accelerator to go. I had my fuel filter changed yesterday and it didnt help. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be???

It is a 99 Grand Am. I bought it last December so and I dont know if it had a tune up before that. I havent had one done on it. I just drove it to the movie store and it was trying to die while I was driving.

Its hard to diagnose a car that the application is unknown. If the problem goes away at higher speed you have a vacuum leak. Take it to a trusted mechanic.

When is the last time you have had a tune up? This is where I would start. Also use a good injector cleaner that you add to the fuel tank. What type of car is it? there are component's that get dirty that affect how the engine runs. Cleaning will help but to make that recommendation we need to know more info. Good luck.

Lots of different answers here. My 2 cents would be to clean that throttle body, as its probably all blackened from oil, and carbon buildup. That causes a false reading for the computer, to know what to idle at. May also want to clean the part called an IAC(idle air control) is usually in the same area as the throttle body. Hope it works out for you. Good luck.

I had this problem with an 86 Mustang Gt that i owned years ago. It was the computer that went bad. It could also just need a tune up. Bring it in the repair shop for safety.

Take it to AutoZone and they can run a diagnostic check on it for free. It will list the error codes and they give you a printout of the parts you need.

I would say stalling on accelration could be a vacuum leak or iginition problem, like old wires, ect.

sounds like you need a full tune up to start with and might even have your injectors cleaned.

if carborated, there might be a compression problem, or timing had jumped...if injected they might be clogged....but for safety take it in to the shop and see what is wrong with it
