My 11 week old daughter is exclusively breastfed. I would like her to take an occasional bottle of expressed milk so I can go out but she won't do it. She's taken a couple of them before without a problem. I've tried a few different kinds of bottles that are all supposed to be similar to the breast. Has anyone else had this problem and what are some solutions?

My husband is in the Navy and gone a lot so she is very attached to me. She is already exhibiting signs of stranger anxiety.

try having someone else give her the bottle (that she knows) wearing a shirt or something that smells like you but make sure she can't see you!

My daughter was the same way. We tried every bottle out there and nothing worked! Quite honestly, if she was hungry enough, she would take the bottle. So you are not harming her by being away for 4-6 hours if she won't eat. We ended up giving her a cup very early, at five months. Although it is very time consuming, she could be spoon fed breast milk. Also you could try using a syringe (like you would do with medicine) and just doing it very slowly.

I always felt really badly for the babysitter bc my daughter would cry so much! So hopefully you have a family member or close friend who could handle a fussy baby.

One other thing, get yourself a baby bjorn or sling and you can take your baby almost anywhere! Our daughter slept in her bjorn so well, we were able to keep are regular social activities much the same until about 10 months.

my son had the same problem. the only way i could get him to take a bottle was to put some baby food on the nipple and he took it like a charm. I would also have a friend/relative give her a bottle. She knows what you have (breasts) and may fuss more at you giving her the bottle. Also, it may help if you aren't even in the house, some won't even take the bottle if you are around. You could also try soaking the nipple overnight in your breastmilk. Didn't work for me but might for you. My son is 3 mo old now and always takes the bottle for his sitter. Hope this helps.
Also, some people on here may yell at me for the baby food, (and they have already) but that little of an amount won't hurt, they gotta eat when moms not around.

well I nursed both my girls and with my last girl i took her off the breast at nine months because wow she was attached to me like glue. I just refused the breast completely and just kept giving the bottle. The baby will refused for about a week but trust me he or she will get hungry and give up. oh and try having someone else give her the bottle while your in another room. I hope that helps. It worked for me and she was off the bottle in a week.
