I'm asking seriously. To me, it's obvious his administration has been plagued by many lies. I'm trying to understand why somebody would still support George Bush. So I'm looking for a real answer - if you want to just pile up abuse on me for asking, that's your perogative, but it won't get anyone anywhere. Also, please don't tell me Clinton also lied. I'm aware of Clinton's indiscretions. It's Bush I'm asking about.
Bush finally admitted to wirte-tappings and secret prisons which he formerly denied. He also admitted Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, although to me, in the weeks leading to the war, he did link the two on every occasion possible.
So do you a) Think he didn't really lie - explain why, or b) Think that he had to lie in order to do his job properly and that the American public is better for it, or c) Something else?
Feel free to expand.
Thank you.

All right. Thanks to everyone that answered. It's nice to know you can disagree with someone and still have a civil debate.
My real concerns with the lies of the administration is that once you start lying, how do you know what true and what's not? It really all boils down to whether or not you trust the president's intentions. We know at least some of the prisonners at Gitmo were innocent of any wrongdoing and that they were held in horrific conditions. The secrecy only increases suspicion. How do we know some of these wire-tappings are not purely political in nature? Something like the Nixon era. Why won't the Red Cross be allowed at Gitmo? Aren't they a neutral enough agency. If, as is alleged, prisonners are treated humanely, what do we have to fear from them?
Anyway, thanks again for answering. It's always good to have the view from the other side of the fence.

I don't see it the way that you do. He has had a very difficult task in trying to get his arms around the terrorism issue. I believe he has done what he can.

There is an interesting comparison to FDR and the things he did to first fix the economy and then to fight a huge war. His own party was quite vocal about the difference in opinion on how much power was being grabbed by the executive branch. There we a lot of covert operations, propaganda, detention camps (Japanese Americans) spying, etc. Those things were on the edge and perhaps even over. Bush is doing some of the same things, but not because he is a big liar, but rather because he feels it is important in order to protect us.

I wish the Bush haters would find a way to focus on how to deal with the biggest issue of our time. Wasting your energy hating Bush is very counterproductive and has blinded you to the realities of the situation we are in.

1. The wire tappings have been done since Jimmy Carter. I am glad he is monitoring potential terrorists.
2. We went into Iraq because Saddam did not allow weapon inspectors full access like he agreed to. I watched the speech the night before we went into Iraq. This was a focus point, though not the only. We cannot afford evil to get nukes and must strike first.
3. He had to deny the wire tapping and secret prisions because THEY WERE CLASSIFIED. You get death if you leak classified information.

I support the President because

1. He is actively going after terrorists. I do not want NY to become like Israel. I want to fight them on their land. This is a radical concept because no previous president has dealt with the terrorism problem: Clinton, Bush, Reagan, or Carter.
2. He has cut taxes. Lower tax rates increase funds into the treasury. He has not dealt with the out of control spending.
3. He is a real and decent man. I respect him personally. He is straight forward in how he conducts himself. I cannot stand phonies and there are many in both parties.
4. A president must not tell Americans everything. There are some things that must be hidden from the public.

There are a few things that I disagree with the President on, but he has done the right thing defending us.

Lies are told by most politicians routinely, this is especially true of a president involved in war. War is generally unpopular and fraught with security issues for every decision. One leak could have devastating consequences for many. One can never know where or when an enemy will try to exploit you, it could happen in your own camp even by your own ppl! As it pertains to security; Better to be thought uninformed, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

There is little doubt the American way of life, from our simplest small town parades to our greatest space projects is alive and well.

I DO support GWB, I will continue to support GWB.

I find no lies.... just a few things that should have continued to be kept quiet..... the wire tapping of Muslims(who make phone calls to and receive phone calls from Arab countries) JUSTIFIED. And the prisons are justified since the terrorists are the ENEMY and have NO RIGHTS under our Constitution.... They attacked the USA, they have no rights under any UN or World organization... they are the ENEMYand THEY want to KILL YOU.... I know that is SO DAMN HARD to understand... but try...

Explain? for one thing, the press and the American public don't need to know every thing... in fact, the press is very harmful to national security... they seem to enjoy giving our ENEMY information that should be kept confidential....

LIES? take a good look at the Clinton thing that contaminated the White House for 8 years... there you will find many LIES and acts that are treasonous in the eyes of many Americans.....

I support any torture necessary to get info from the ENEMY.... nail their damn hands to a stump and drive bamboo slivers under their ugly terrorist finger nails if that is what it takes... America must survive... the ideology of Islam needs a severe reprimand.... Muslims have abused too many countries and too many people for too long.... the ideology of Islam is very very much like the ideology of communism.... if you don't believe it, compare them....

I'm not a supporter of Bush as much as I am supporting the use the administration to move us forward towards globalized markets.

However, I can say that the lies don't bother me a bit. All politicians lie. The lies of this one mean nothing at all.

What bothers me is Gitmo, being too lazy to get court permission for wiretaps, and the general "let's see how much we can get away with" attitude of the administration with respect to the US Constitution.

one thing to remember is that sometimes someone has to lie, if we came out first day and said we are watching bank accounts and phone lines... why tip your hand, it's not like on the street, if GWB talks the whole world hears him its hard to gather evidence if everyone knows how its done.. now myself, I dont have jack in the bank or have anyone in syria to talk to, so i have nothing to worry about, if they really want to hear my bland day to day business I have no worries about it.. the computer will prolly fall asleep listening to me.

as for the secret prisons.. If we came out and said hey we have prisoners in whatever country.. then that country could get attacked by terriorists in retailaition

So then your assuming Al Gore lied, John Kerry lied, Ted Kennedy lied, Bill Clinton too right?

He definitely, knowingly lied on many occasions. How anyone could seriously pretend this isn't true, is beyond me - I don't think like a space-cadet Bushvote, you see.
His biggest reasons for lying are the protection of his and his family's ties to the Saudi ruling family (extremely repressive Muslims, by the way, for you uninformed Republi-canards) and the financial gains he and his family derive from this cuddly friendship; and, the furtherance of PNAC.

Here we go again .. Decisions TODAY are made based on facts that are known TODAY! It's easy to criticize decisions in retrospect .. that's so easy... I am sure your favorite candidate would not have made and better a decision. Quote from Kerry: "I supported the war before I opposed the war... ". Let's get real ...
