An autopsy was performed Monday. On Tuesday, Her Majesty's Coroner Linda P. Virgill said that based on preliminary findings, "the cause of death is not natural." But, she said, "we wish to reserve [announcing] the cause of death at this time," adding that a toxicology results and a full autopsy report will be released by the end of the week.


Virgill said an inquest will take place afterward and her staff will interview all "relevant witnesses," including Anna Nicole Smith, hospital workers and flight attendants, to develop an official timeline.


The coroner's statements came in the wake of a story in the Nassau Guardian that Daniel Smith suffered a "massive heart attack" and that antidepressants had been found in his system. The newspaper said that Daniel was seen "vomiting uncontrollably" shortly before his death

It could have been, like others have suggested, a brain aneurysm, and there is certainly the possibility of foul play by someone on the hospital staff. It is not unheard of for sociopaths who are in the nursing profession to take patients' lives. Poor Anna Nicole, she's had such a bizarre life, first her marriage to a very old guy who dies not long after she marries him; her battle to get what's due her in his will; and now this, a double whammy, birth and death together. She's a prime example of the phenomenon of randomness.

I honestly don't think so. I just think this second autopsy has caused more suspicion, but it really isn't that uncommon in such a case. I still go back to the way he was found, peaceful like he had just fallen asleep. I feel like he suffered an aneurysm and died instantly. It is a huge consideration especially if he had used drugs in the recent past.We still can't rule that out, no matter what has been said since the first autopsy. But no matter what, it is absolutely so sad.

I think something happened (non natural causes) but that it was likely accidental. Very tragic - can't imagine the pain it must be for her to give birth and lose a son at the same time.

It's terrible that one person has had so much tradgedy in her life. I really do feel that deep down she's a good person, just on a really bumpy path.

I hope that he wasn't murdered, but for the sake of knowing I hope they can figure out what happened.

Pray for people like her......they deserve a break.

I think so. I always thought Anna Nicole was a little off her rocker, and I wonder if she had something to do with it...even if it was unintentional. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Most likely he died of a drug overdose.
I work in a hospital and I can assure you it doesn't take a week to get a toxicology report; or even a day! We have overdoses and attempted suicides routinely and can know what drugs they have in less than 30 minutes!

is an anurism considered natural causes? because they said it was not natural causes. i think it was a drug overdose and i think howard k stern is a drug addict too. who knows maybe even nicole. didnt they acuse her of such when she lost all the weight?

it is a sad story, no matter who your family is it's always sad when a kid dies.

I think he was a drug overdose. It's sad. The reports say she always used drugs right in front of him. I think it's sad. He was cute.
