If it is truly brass there is a product called brasso you apply let set and wipe off, if it is extremely corroded you will have to apply a lot of elbow grease to remove. You can also try baking soda and water if you cannot locate brasso.

Noxon works better than Brasso. wash off the residue with detergent and water, and then apply Tung oil to the brass to keep it shiny.
