The term Unalienable rights has a very specific and unique point of origination in the United States Declaration of Independence. Unalienable rights, which some have also linked to the term Inalienable rights, are stated to be an endowment by the Creator of men who are also defined as mankind and that the Creator is defined as being Nature's God and the author of the Laws of Nature. These unalienable rights include Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

No, our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are unalienable because they come from God. (endowed by their Creator). Unalienable means they do not come from any man made government and cannot be taken away by any man made government. This does not provide any right to marry anyone or not marry anyone. Your argument is specious. If you are trying to justify Homosexual marriage I am sorry but there is no justification for it. Allow me to explain. We must understand what marriage is. People can live together in any arrangement of numbers and genders they choose. People can have children out of wedlock if they choose. All of those arrangements may be acceptable but there is one thing they will never be. They will never be the "ideal". That is all that marriage is, a recognition of the ideal situation that has been proven to be the best for society as a whole. One man, one woman bonded and committed to each other and responsible for providing for all offspring that result from this exclusive union. This has for many centuries throughout the world has been demonstrated to be the absolute best arrangement for the production of good, healthy and well adjusted citizens. By no means is it the only way but it is the ideal way. There can only be one ideal. Either marriage means this or it means nothing at all. Pure and simple and that is the reality of it. .

Meant to convey that as human beings, we are born with these rights, they are not bestowed from some other power, not can they be taken away, lest a man give his freedom away.

Rousseau often wrote about society corrupting the will of man- perhaps here he is referring to the same concept that the Americans wrote in the Declaration- no one power, authority, or governing body has will- it comes from the people and for the people.

These are rights for all and they cannot ever be taken away. Jefferson is saying that these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The general will is the will of the people. Rousseau had a revolutionary idea for the time, namely, that a government exists at the will of the people. In other words, The governors rule at the will of the governed (people). Remember, most all of the governments at that time were monarchies, so royalty was shaken and upset by his new idea.

Break the word down and look at it. Un-alien-able. Things that cannot be made alien (which also means foreign.) These are things that cannot be denied, they cannot be made 'a foreign concept' to anyone. They apply to everyone.
