This happened at my old school back in 1932.
Our main teacher got sick, so they called in a substitute. The substitute got sick, so they called in a replacement sub. When SHE got sick, the headmaster (presumably to save himself embarrassment) burnt down the school and killed the faculty. Great days.

Then Michael Jackson comes in and the kiddies have to play pick-up sticks with the elephant man's bones and their butt-cheeks. That'll teach 'em to make two teachers sick in two days. If Jocko goes home sick, they have to look at Captain Kangaroo's decomposing corpse for the rest of the week. Lucky them.
Speaking of Captains, whazzup, Cap'n? You didn't get plastique surgery along with the bloody camels, I hope. It's so hard to flirt with someone who looks suspiciously like Mr. Creosote. You did this on purpose to me, I'll bet. So I had to go get me own mug altered as well. I'm so poor I couldn't afford a plastic surgeon, so I went to a papier-mache-and-snot intern. Now I look like an inbred George Bush, as though we really needed another one.

They usually have a list of Subs they can go through. Worst scenario, another teacher or the principle will fill in.

I don't know, but I made a substitute cry once. The principal had to come and finish teaching the class, and boy was he pissed.
