Most women are happy to help young girls with this stuff.
If she is your friend, she will probably be glad to talk to you about it.
Just wait until the two of you are alone, in private, and have some time to talk.
Say something like, "I have these questions, that I probably ought to ask my Mom about, but I just can't - I feel too weird. Can I ask you?"
She'll probably know exactly what you are talking about.
If she is uncomfortable discussing these things, ask her if there is anyone else she thinks you could talk to...
Here is a website that has a lot of very good, straightforward information, by women, for women, that you can read yourself, in private:

This one is very good, too:

breaking down the walls is a great idea for building a gate. I know this is a very touchy subject but if your hero really is a hero, you will be able to tell her anything, all you have to do is make the move. Just tell her one day either on the phone or in person that you want to know when she first started her "cycle". After that, youll be able to tell her anything and im sure she will be glad to help
hope this helps
tia.

When I was 12 I was freaked when I had my period. I literally screamed in fright because I didn't know what it was. My mother was just as bad maybe worse. You know what she did for getting upset? She punished me.
I think now things have changed since I was a child, don't worry you can talk with your mother and she won't punish you for that. Approaches have changed a great deal and communication on these issues are an open topic...Go ahead and talk with your mother I guarantee you it'll be safe.

I had the same problem. This is what you do......Bring up a girl subject maybe, something like clothes. Then say, "Too, bad I can't wear white." and most likely she'll ask why, the say,"Because it's that time for this girl. I've started my period." Then go on with the conversation.

I know how u feel....i had the same issue when i first started, i just flat out asked my sister what age she was when she started, it wasn't weird....she understood especially since she knew i just started so if you were to ask your friend she'd understand because she probably went through the same thing when her time came. Dont be nervous because its nothing to be nervous about.

Simple sweetie you dont need to be afriad of asking that kinda stuff. i mean i have a "little sister" she isnt really my lil sister but i treat her like it. and i mean she knows she can ask me anything just because we have that kinda bond. you dont need to directly tell a person that they are your hero or that you admire them, because they know it.
to ask a personal type question just begin with saying like hey i was wondering when you blah blah blah , and so you dont feel totally wierd just tell her im asking you this because like last week or whenever it was this and this happened.
its not gna be a bad thing trust me, just go with it hun. She probably went through the same thing i know i did and like you i had someone i looked up to and i was just very open with her from the start and her with me just ask away, she isnt gna think your wierd or odd cause its normal!!

Sweetheart, talk to your mom. Why do you need to know about your friends experience anyway. 13 is quite normal. Yes, it's hard sometimes to talk to parents, but guess what? That's what they are there for.
