Copper is a natural element, meaning it exists in nature. Unlike the trans-Uranium elements, it was formed in stars many years ago and remains to this date because it is not radioactive.
It is also a "natural" element in that it can be found "native", which is a term mineralogists use to mean the metal itself can be found, uncombined, in nature. Native copper is associated with arid conditions, else it oxidizes, and frequently associated also with silver and crystalline quartz. It is found in the form of extended irregular spidery growths, as well as interconnected crystalline clusters (see picture).
