When i got mine a few months ago i was constantly being told "don't use this don't use that" and "use this use that" someone would tell me dont use peroxide then someone would tell use peroxide.....i use peroxide and my piercing hasn't been rejected or anything, also when i shower i clean it with soap it also helps too, a good think to use is soap and water i use that and peroxide, and dont take it out for a few weeks, but its going to take 6 months to a year or so to properly heal, the pain will be gone but you'll still get mucus and stuff just clean it 3times a day and it should help and dont let it get crusty cuz my sisters got infected for leaving it there. Also go to this site here for more info on properly caring for your new piercing it helped me alot

I have had mine pierced twice. The first experience I had was very bad and I developed an infection and pain and had to remove it. I had pus and redness. Very gross. I waited a few months for it to heal and had it done again. This time I cleaned it regularly with alcohol. Use a q-tip. When you take a shower or bath be gentle with the area but an antibacterial soap would be ideal to use. NO PEROXIDE!!!!!! The guy that did my piercing said that it prevents healing. I didn't take mine out for a good month and a half. I think it had healed pretty good by then. If you have any questions that I have not answered and went to a reputable place to have the piercing done, they should answer any questions you might have. Also, If you develop an infection or redness that won't go away even after you remove your piercing, go to a doctor. Good luck!

Just got mine pierced a few days ago and the piercer told me to use a nonscented anti-bacterial liquid soap like Dial to wash it with. He also said to clean it 4-6 times a day with plain Listerine mouthwash. I have been doing this and there is no redness or swelling of any kind. There is very little soreness either. He said I could safely change my jewelry in about 6-8 weeks. Hope things go well for you!!

Make sure you clean the area several times a day because if you don`t it can get infected. Use a Q-tip they work best. It might be painful or sore at times. Your belly button ring can get caught on clothing and that can cause pain. You should probably leave the ring in for a couple weeks other than that you should be fine.

Your piercer should have told you all of that information, but I've found what worked best for cleaning my piercing was disenfecting saline solution (you know, the stuff for contacts).
Other than that, they make certain types of disenfectants just for piercings. You may want to call your piercer and ask what (s)he suggests.
You're supposed to wait at least 6 months before taking out the original barbell or ring that you were pierced with.

p.s. DO NOT use peroxide.

Soak it in salt water 20 mins a day. Make sure to move the piercing. I think 8 weeks is the general rule for fleshy piercings, but your piercer should have givne you care instructions.

always wear clean cloths, wash your sheets everyday.
clean the piercing with a saline solution i.e. the stuff you keep contacts in at least 3 times a day, it should be safe to take out for short periods of time in 12 weeks.
