who says the poor never get ahead , do you know that you and I work to support the poor ,and they get to have all the pleasures and help from the goverment, not to mention there is a big majority who have never worked ,in their lives and live way much better than the working class. I personally have been to the poor as they are called ,and their place beats mine by a big margin. as I have to pay all my bills and work to pay them so don''''''t ,have the chance to enjoy what I have in my home, and I still don" t have a big Flat screen t.v ,as many poo-folks ,and can't even afford all the name brand stuff ,I see 'The Poor ' wearing poor , Ha.

Actually, the poor do get ahead and their lives do get better.
At any one time, there is always going to be some segment of the population that's poor. But the people making up that segments change from year to year. Only some small portion of families who were at the lowest income levels in 1996 are still there now. Over time, these families began to make more money and did better in life. As they moved "up the ladder" with age, new young families replaced them at the bottom...and a few families from above went "down the ladder".
See the link below for a better explanation.

Jesus said the poor will always be with us. The only change will be in who is poor. If the ones who are poor today work hard at education and then jobs they will not be poor tomorrow. But someone else will be. So will it ever get better, no.

well you gotta think of it like this... where are the poor? They all basically live in the same neighborhood, go to the same schools, and work at the same jobs. The atmosphere is very depressing.
If no one is helping in making a change to any of these areas, they will stay poor. People need to have great education in a positive atmosphere, and jobs that they can really move up in (like those that offer tuition reembursment programs, etc.) instead of your local mcdonalds. They need to have more positive recreational centers... i find more alchohol shops than i do a park or a clean basket ball or tennis court. Plus, if the individual in a certain neighboorhood don't sponsor a new park or kid's clubs, or school program it doesn't get done, but who has the money for that. It really sux. We need to help, poverty sux, and is a major issue, you should be asking your leaders this question? And what we can all do to help. If the knowledge on poverty is not out there, nothing will ever get done. i'm part of the one campaign, you should check it out, you can get a whole bunch of good information on this topic. http://www.one.org
some say, get education to move ahead, but the school in the poor areas, are aweful and the teachers are just not interested in teaching them, there are drama issues, not being able to go to school because something at home, etc. going to a crappy school, you won't have what it takes to go to college, and i know ppl that, didn't even know how to get to college, some haven't even heard it from their parents, cuz their parents never went either.
The poor need the world to help them, not only with money, but with ppl who know about "college prep, how to move up in a job, where to find a good job, etc." you know? prevention programs, not programs for the aftermath.

Oh as a comment on an above answer, I don't remember when the poor people were on the radio before Rush came along and made them lose their jobs.

well, the poor people around the area where I live are people who DON'T wanna get ahead; otherwise, their foodstamps and other government assistance will be taken away.
I feel the government has a handle on these kinds of things. They choose to keep the poor this way so that they can continue to do the sh*t jobs. And they give them this assistance so that they don't strive to become citizens that people "respect." I mean, you hear it all the time from people who feel that welfare should not support low-income people: ("the welfare system should be done away with" or "why don't they try to better themselves by going to college?"). Reason being, it's so easy to NOT try and just depend on the government. can't change people's way of thinking....

Eff them. No one is holding them back.
Poor immigrants (my parents included) come here and do well for themselves. I myself, born here to poor immigrants, was raised in a black/asian ghetto, and went to school, did well, went to college, and now make pretty good money and live in an affluent neighborhood and am debt free with a fair load of investments. BTW - I worked and paid for my own education, no grants or anything, and my parents never took a government handout. Not one.
The poor can get ahead once they get off their ässes and do something for themselves rather than waiting for stuff to be handed to them.

There are plenty of poor who have, and can, get ahead when they educate themselves and work hard towards a goal.
The people who will never get ahead are those who will not or can't do those things....and of course the morons who think that the people who have worked to become successful owe them a living.

Most people conform to their reality. Not all poor people stay poor, only those who conform to what they have, others work hard and get ahead.
