Get the cash and go over there and tell them you messed up and offer to exchange the check for the bad check. If they have already deposited this check you may need to pay them a fee for the bounced check ... BE SURE YOU GET THE OLD CHECK BACK AND A RECEIPT FOR THE CASH in case there is a dispute later..

call up and tell the payee that by mistake you signed on an old check book of yours and go and collect the cheque as fast as possible and payup your liability. Or at least as soon as possible write a letter to this effect and show that you never intended to defraud the payee and you can be saved.
