More new tech goods like laptops, labour-saving devices, easier to keep the house clean, lots more foreign travel, newly invented healthcare ops such as laser treatment for eyes.
Why? Economic growth of course!

I am so much better off than my grand parents and my parents, there is not enough room to list all the ways. My maternal grandfather came from Slovakia, worked in the steel mills, got his head crushed in an accident, before workers comp came into being, had to work as a laborer for the rest of his time with a steel plate in his head and had a wife and ten children. They lived in a four room house.
My father became mentally ill and was institutionalized until he died. My mother had to work as a department store sales clerk, bingo clerk and other jobs to support the family. There was no welfare back then.
I was the first to go to college. I earned enough money and benefits to retire at age 58. I answer Yahoo! questions for entertainment.

My wages in real terms are probably not much more than my gparents (i am low waged). However the choice available to me in the goods and services I purchase and the concurrent price of those goods and services has fallen greatly. For example food and clothing is far cheaper. The level of debt accumulation that is ok socially and available comercially has also increased. This props up my standard of living falsely.
