I've been trying to download some custom sims off thesims2.com but once I've downloaded them and imported them into the game the hair never shows up. It either shows up as a social bunny head or just shows up like all the other hair styles even though their under the custom hairs. I make sure that they state that there are no meshes because I really don't understand how to work meshes, and I make sure the only required game is the sims 2 but it still never works. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

I think the problem with Sims2.com downloads is that it does not mark items as needing a USER MADE Mesh. Many such items are marked on download sites to "DO NOT make this available on other sites", but knowing how we get if we have zillions of downloads, it's easy to lose track.

MAXIS does clearly mark it's own meshes when you need an expansion pack. It fully supports its own meshes since you will see an icon for the EPs you must have, in order to have the styles show up. HOWEVER user made meshes cannot be supported because Maxis cannot keep track of them all.

So it's up to the user to do this troubleshooting until a better way is developed to sniff out the User-made meshes. I also used to think this was a nonproblem but now it certainly is very real and a bothersome problem. :(

I've found that contacting the uploader doesn't always result in help since they may also not have any idea where they got their mesh. :(

On MTS2, there is a help file about missing download parts including hair. I'll only quote a part of it here, you need to go see the original at MTS2.

includes:
==========
6. Make sure you have the required mesh!
Some symptoms:
a. If you are missing a hair mesh, you'll get a blank head (invisible scalp), bunny head, or Maxis default hairstyles For women, generally the long straight black middle-parted style, for men the short afro hair).
b. If you are missing a clothing mesh, you'll get a Maxis default style... For women's everyday outfits, for instance, you'll get the red shirt with capris pants and sneakers mesh (there are others for the other different types, too).
======= etc, pls go see original file on MTS2

You Must download the mesh first and then the recolor for the item to show up in the game. I do it all the time and that is how it's done. There is nothing to working meshes, they just go into your downloads folder just like the rest of your downloads and then they show up in the game but they are a Must for the items to show.
