Being goth has nothing to do with what clothes you wear or music you listen to, it is a way of thinking and seeing the world. The clothes that goths wear and the music that goths listen to is just a reflection of that mindset. Goths see that there is extreme pain and evil in the world, along with the good. Instead of condemning it or ignoring it, goths accept these things as a part of life and try and enjoy the good along with the bad, since they can't stop the bad from happening. They are not obsessed with death, they just accept it as an inevitability. They do not try and cause more pain in their (or anybody else's) lives, since there is plenty to start with. Goths tend to be kind, intelligent, non-violent, emotional, and artistic.

Teens seem to become 'gothic', because it gives them a way to fit in with others like them. I know at my school, the goth clique is pretty tight, with a lot of 'members'. It's really just a part of kids learning about who they are, and their identity. It usually ends when they get tired of being someone their not/ not being an individual, and they rejoin society. Another reason may be to shock parents/ teachers/ other students, and to get needed attention. Some people take a long time to grow out of the trend, and to me, that means they take a long time to mature. A good place to see 'goths' in their natural habitat is at www.vampirefreaks.com. Get ready to see porfiles upon profiles of people who look/ talk identically to the next ;). You'll see what I mean.

It is a personal preferrence. Please don't try and make it like all people who dress a certain way are a certain way. However, cops who dress in cop uniforms are generally cops. That's an exception to the rule. Ask yourself this:"Why do I dress the way I do?"
Its your personal preferrence:
Some people like cake and some people like pie, people are different and have different tastes.

Goths are really smart, they know a poser when they see one.
Goths have no respect for posers...
