Maybe your psychology degree intimidates them, and that's the only thing they can think of to say, because they fear having someone knowing what they think, the most.

Or maybe they're so stupid that they think "psychology" is the same thing as being "psychic." If so, then it's a scary thought that those kinds of people are having kids, and driving themselves around on the roads. No wonder the world is going to hell in a handbasket!

You have spent this time and money to obtain this degree, angered because people mistake the knowledge you have, and still can't implement you education to resolve this question!?!
Isn't a psychology major supposed to be able to understand the way people think and the process the brain goes thru to come to a conclusion? Maybe you weren't there that day....

That would be like a marketing major asking how to market a product.

That is really weird. lol I'd come up with a stock answer when people ask that...like, "Yes, I do. You're thinking that you'd like to give me $1000!" LOL Or on a more serious note, "No, that would be astrology, which is a hobby, not a college major. My degree is in psychology, which required a great deal of hard work. Big difference."

How dumb can people be?? lol

Most people assume that an individual who has earned a degree in Psychology, or one who practices Psychology, has done extensive research and study on learning how people think and behave the way they do. Your friends and family who ask you to analyze their futures or their present states are most likely assuming that with your knowledge, you are able to pick up on their behavioral cues and tell them what it "actually" means.

So go with the flow. If you like them tell them they're going to come into a lot of money. If you don't tell them they are going to go through some bad times for several years but they'll emerge okay. Tell 'em the details are "hazy" at this time but they really should think about spending more time doing charity work.

I don't ever get that, but I do always get people wanting me to analyze them and figure out why they are the way they are. They expect me to be able to solve all of their problems with in 5 minutes of meeting them. Many people do not understand the field of psychology.

It's cause people think that psychology is reading people and digging deep inside them based on body language and other things to see what they are really feeling. They don't see it as something concrete and being a scientific study of the mind.
