Yes; it's my favorite Dickens' work, from those I've read. I like the contrast of the two worlds, and how goodness gets rewarded, but the reward changes the good.....I don't want to ruin the ending, but I was surprised by the benefactor....

yes. Quite possibly the most boring book I've ever read. I had to read it in ninth grade, but the next year my school stopped forcing people to read it because everyone hated it and used sparknotes. I thought the entire plot was uninteresting; i like other Dickens books better.

Anyone who ever took hight school english has read Great Expectations. As for discussing the book, that it your job to do in class. Your teacher wants your thoughts on it, not ours. Read the book and enjoy.

I read this book with a freshman English class I was teaching. I felt sorry for Pip who was more or less mistreated by his sister and brother-in-law. But, when he was pocketing food to take to the convict, I thought it was hilarious when his brother-in-law couldn't believe he had eaten the food he put in his pocket and he said, "You can't have chawed it, Pip!" And that got Pip a beating from his sister.
