Because heterosexual marriage is "sacred" and "special," and people who normally support our rights aren't psychologically prepared to let us be truly equal.
In other words, they support gay rights, but not *that* much.

These people are not true gay supporters. They falsely claim to support gay rights because they think that's the 'in thing' to do. But the fact that they oppose gay marriage, reflects their true heart. They are still prejudiced over some gay issues.

Well, the people think that gay marriage makes "normal" marriage bad. But really, they arent paying attention because rights include marriage. They are just stupid.

I would guess that it comes down the the blurring of the lines between legal marriage and religious marriage. No one feels comfortable with the idea of the government telling churches who to include in which ceremonies: some people honestly think that that's what the current debate is about. ::sigh::

Because marriage has religious undertones that many people cannot accept. So while they can accept gay people and the gay lifestyle, they cannot accept what they see as a dilution of their religious values. And they are entitled to their views on that. Personally I don't believe in marriage either, equal rights for same sex partners under the eyes of the law, absolutely!, but marriage, nah ... can you imagine what would happen to the divorce rate!!!

the word marriage is very generic these days. It is used when the justice of the peace marries a couple and there is no religion involved there. I think if our government is using this word for heterosexual couples they need to apply it to everyone, no matter what their sexual orientation.

gay-QUEER-marriage is NOT possible. God created a man and a woman and put them in the garden of Eden. There was no other human beings there. That was what God wanted for this earth. Man & woman. None of this queer perverted sexual connections going on. Real Christians will NOT support gay-queer-rights, EVER.

I don't know how gay marriage makes you equal...equally miserable do they want to be trapped? Isn't it easier to say it is over than get lawyers involved?

Because they don't support homosexuality. The don't even support human rights. Animals have more support and rights. That's because humans are evil animals.
