I don't think people actually ask you to be perfect, they just try to change some things in you that they are not 'comfortable with'.

There are many reasons why people do that, ranging from benign to malign.

It could be well-intentioned people who think you would be a better person if you changes a small thing about you.

Or it could be people with bad intentions trying to undermine your self -confidence.

The main thing I would say is that you can benefit form these comments.

If you are someone who is generally open to criticism (so that your friends would be frank with you), listen to people who care about you, and take their comments under advisement. Whether you decide to act upon what they say is up to you.

If you are not that open, then listen to what your enemies say, what they say often has some element of truth, although they might twist, put things in a different light. Use them as your mirror; if you choose to change, isn't it ironical that you are making yourself better thanks to your enemies? Best way of getting back, isn't it?

Maybe they see certain qualities within us which they do not possess themselves so seek to undermine our confidence. An alternative theory is that they only want us to be the best that we can be, maybe they see our potential and are trying to help in a misguided way.

We don't have to reach perfection, only strive for it.
