Age, mostly.

Older people are a helluva lot wiser, or have the potential to be, simply because they've been around a lot longer and have experienced a whole lot more and have had to make a whole lot more very serious decisions that younger people just haven't been around long enough to do. Having a broader perspective on life's issues is also a part of the wisdom older people have, again, simply because they have lived through more because they've been here longer. Some have also read a lot more than younger people, so they've learned a lot that way. Patience is something that older people have that younger people don't, simply because the only way you can gain patience is through time, and obviously older people have spent more time on earth than younger people. And knowing when-to-say-when is an asset older people have, because they can see when an answer has almost no end to it. God Bless you.

Life experience, although I've met many older people who, even though they've experienced more, they haven't understood or comprehended what the experienced very well. And I've met younger people who have understood more from what little they've experienced, making some of them more knowledgable than some older folks.

Some people here said older people are more logical, rational, more knowledgable. I've met some older people who are very illogical and illrational, and not very knowledagble because some never take the time to really "think". But some older people are rational etc.

There really isn't too much difference between the two other than age.

Well, "old" and "young" are relative....When you're five, thirty seems old....when you're thirty, seventy seems old.....when you're seventy, do you realize you're old???? So, let's quantify your question. What are the differences between a five year old and a seventy year old? At 5, one is egocentric, has a limited understanding of how things work, social interactions are controlled, and decisions are made for you. You are cared for, and innocent in many ways. You have optimism and believe in many things that adults no longer do....monsters, mermaids, personal human flight, etc. You know how to play and let the world go by without caring what happens....things like religion, politics, money, sex, jobs, and education hold no interest, nor should they be of concern. Retirement is not in your vocabulary. By 70, your whole world view changes.......

That seems so obvious that I must be misunderstanding.. but I'll go with it... Number one, LIFE EXPERIENCE. With that you gain a deeper understanding of cause and effect, you can not learn from a book. Another difference is priorities, especially if as a younger person you do not have to pay for your basic needs. Of course theres always the aging process.

old people have been young and can't believe they're old; young people don't even think about being old
young people usually take more chances than old people
young people usually sleep more than old people
old people wish the young could learn from the mistakes of their elders, instead of ignoring them

I would answer your question, but you wrote a fragmented sentence?

Yes, there are differences, and similarities as well, in young and old people.
