Personally...I believe it is chemically. In civilizations BEFORE the bible was written, there have been gay people. Also, why would a person just want to be gay. Do you really want to choose to be sometimes outcasted by who you like? No.. Last point is I dont know what time period exactly, but there was a time when men married women but were secretly gay. Now if they chose to be gay they wouldnt marry a lady now would they? They had to hide it because it was socially unaccepted and if something is socially unaccepted why would people choose it.

Lemme hear what you think.

So here is basically my opinion. Thanks for answering I took into consideration ALMOST all of the answers. Gay people do not choose to be gay, however, SOME do. But the majority do not and in fact a lot of gay people I cant even tell are gay. That is because they are normal people and it is not a sin to be gay. And no they are not going to hell either. One of my friends is mormon and they are very very very anti-gay. So do you really think he chose to be gay when he was RAISED to be straight. No i dont think so. His parents tried to make him un-gay but he cant help it. So anyways my point is we all have our opinions but just dont base your opinion on religion because just because your church preaches no gays, does not mean you have to follow it. God loves everybody and if you dont believe that then you are being hypocritical to the religion because you are not loving everybody including gays.

A person can come to believe things about themselves based on how they were raised, what kind of self-esteem they have, how they think others see them, whether or not they think they are attractive to certain people and lots of other variables. Scientists have known for years now that children are not born knowing a boy is different from a girl, they learn it through socialization. By the age of four a child's concept of him/herself as a boy/girl is firmly established.

People attempt to recreate whatever it was they were raised with, even if it was harmful to them. This is because it is known to them, so it is comfortable. Girls raised in homes with an alcoholic father will often grow up and, despite their best efforts, will repeat the pattern and marry an alcoholic like their mothers did. The reason I mention this is that they don't CHOOSE to repeat the pattern but they do nevertheless. They do it subconsciously.

You are born gay. My evidence? I've had gay friends over the years and this subject has come up. All of them said they knew they liked the same sex by the time they were 8-12 years old, before they really even knew was being gay was. Also, there is scientific evidence of differences in brain structure between homosexuals and heterosexuals, specifically in the anterior hypothalamus (see source)

The camp on the "deciding to be gay" side usually are religious conservatives who think that God would not create homosexuals, that they should be punished for their lifestyle, and therefore must have chosen homosexuality. They likely never actually asked a gay person their opinion or read scientific evidence supporting the nature argument.

it is a choice, no ifs ands or buts about it, now whether the person is aware that its their choice or not is a different matter, it could be a mental choice or what not, like if a son grows up without a father or a father figure then they could be looking for that male connection, not in all cases but some, they may or may not know thats what they are seeking. some of them say that God made a mistake, but thats just trying to take the blame off of themselves, and if most of them realized it they can have the same kind of relationship with some1 of the opposite sex if they gave it a chance.

No people dont choose to be gay...why would anyone want to go through life being ridiculed by the majority of society if they could choose different...you cant fight your feelings you can only accept yourself for who you are and love yourself ...if someone chooses not to love you back because of the fact you are being treu to yourself then its not worth having them in your life...because after all it is your life to be who you are!!!

I think that gay people are only experimenting. You aren't just born gay. They are choosing to be gay. They aren't happy with what's available to them, so they just try something differnet.

thanks for acknowledging that people were civil before the bible was written...

if you want to know why someone chooses his/her sexual partner, ask that person
that's the only place you're going to get the truth
anything else is just idle speculation

(sometimes outcasts
are the best crowd)
