I'm currently recoeding my first song at home, I have loads of mixers and equipment, but none that would have any effect on a microphones vocal. I need to record the vocal, but need to soften it down with perhaps a little echo, does anyone know how I could do this, but I don't want to spend a lot of money, have brought way too much equipment recently!!!

No, I mean, is there a little box or something that you could by, for no more than £60?

I would prefer to do it off the computer, manually, if I can, as I don't currently have any program software to support music!

OOH another singer!!! do you have steinberg or sony acid?
there is a plugin called a microphone modeler and it's awesome! no matter what kind of mic you are recording on, it will change the outcome sound to be as if it were recorded on your selected brand of mic and they have all mics from shure to the vintage ones, email me for more info and let me rekix your song when your done!

good luck

I like the old Roland Space Echo. You could maybe find one out there that's reasonable.Warning though,They
are a pain in the arsh to get worked on and to keep the tape
in working order.Definitely a quality delay though.

In the newer side of things you have several options

Ebay, look for a single space multi effects processor unit.
There are loads of them and they are reasonably priced. You want the highest bitrate processor for the money in the digital world,so I recommend no less than 24 bit processing.

It all boils down to your microphone though if you want
the real deal. For the money,I recommend a Rhode
Classic or NT series, again resonably priced, available on Ebay and high quality sound.Good luck!

Emma, forget about the mixers and equipment, just use your PC for now.
Have your backing track ready.
Get a sound recorder | editor, I use the free "Wave-Pad" from http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/masters.html
Plug your mic in and record direct with no effects, you can add those later.
Play your music and record your vocals and then finally mix the vocals with the music using a sequencer like cu-base or fl studio.

...FL Studio has quite a few effects for your vocals and was in your price range last time i looked

Have fun!

If you want to add echo without equipment you'll need to do it in the bathroom. You can get software that does loads of things for you, cakewalk, cubasis etc

Go record in the bathroom. Better accoustics. Cheap fix.

Have you tried Audacity? You can record your voice and apply a host of effects including echo.
It's free too
