For the last 2 weeks or so my wonderful Firefox has been giving me hell and crashing on me every 15-30 min for no obvious reasons. Any ideas on what to check to see what might be going on? I have the latest version BTW.....

Here's what I suggest:

Either disable each extension one by one and restart Firefox every time to find the source of the problem.

OR:

Close Firefox.

C:\Documents and Settings\(your windows username)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Go into the directory you will see there.

Next, copy the following files to a safe place:
1) bookmarks.html
2) cookies.txt
3) formhistory.dat
4) history.dat

Once you have done that, delete the Profiles folder you just went into.

Start Firefox. When it starts up, you'll see that all your bookmarks and extensions are gone. Don't worry, just close Firefox for now.

Close Firefox.

Now navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\(your windows username)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and again into the folder you see there.

Copy your backed up files back into this folder. Over-write any existing files.

Start Firefox back up again. All your bookmarks are now restored.

Now, you can go to http://addons.mozilla.org and install your usual extensions. Be careful about the extensions you install. I strongly suspect it was an extension that is causing Firefox to crash.

It's probably an extension conflict, but...

Do you have Yahoo Messenger 7.5 or higher installed? There's a known crashing bug caused by one of the Messenger dlls in 7.5 and 8.0. Type "about:plugins" in the address bar and scroll down to see if there is one listed as "npYState.dll". If so, exit Firefox, search your hard drive for that file, and rename it (e.g. npYState.dll.old), and restart Firefox.

Firefox released a new version only a few days ago. (1.5.07)You may be better off uninstalling the old one and just downloading the new one.

Check the last extension you installed. Extensions can be buggy.
