They most certainly do. Missouri is in 'Tornado Alley'. They can develop at any point during a storm if conditions are favorable so it's pretty much impossible to tell how often they pass through here.

Although there aren't any instances in the last 20 years that I can think of where a tornado passed through downtown St. Louis, they do tend to hit the suburbs now and then. Like the others have mentioned, the meteorologists rarely ever call them tornadoes. Instead, they're just straight-line winds, but they can do some damage! Power lines down, trees down, damage to buildings, etc. I remember a furniture store getting hit very badly a few years ago around Lindbergh and the Rock Road.
Usually, the real tornadoes hit the rural outlying communities 30-50 miles from St. Louis.

Yes, Not very often, but usually somewhere around the area. They also have mini tornadoes called micobursts, one happened this past summer. Why is it called microburst instead of a tornado? It all has to do with money, if called a tornado the government and insurance has to pay big bucks for repairs. Under microburst they don't. Just like this past summer Illinois did not qualify for Fema money, but the Missouri side did. Same storm went through, did the same amount of damage, But because St. Louis, MO is a major city that got the money.

no you could nevertheless are looking forward to tornado activity. once I lived there the main heavy seasons have been spring and fall. continuously be arranged. Earthquakes take place there, too. different than that it replaced into "handsdown" the main exciting, friendly place I even have ever lived. St Louis citizens are a chief occasion of ways we could continuously all manage one yet another. I stay in California now and it useful is a one hundred eighty degree replace from reliable ole StL Mo. If it wasn't so darned chilly there, i could nevertheless be there.

Yes, they do. Now as for how often it depends on who you ask. Meteorologists will call it straight lined winds or strong winds when we all see a tornado.
