You can adjust it with a nut/screw drivers and some rigging with a pair of 9V batteries and a voltmeter set to 20 Volt DC range.
Many car ECUs will adjust it automatically, sensing the output voltage immediately after cranking as the voltage at idle.
The TPS is just a rugged version of a stereo volume control. When a reference voltage is supplied across this potentiometer, the wiper of the TPS returns a voltage in proportion or inverse proportion, to the angle. Adjusting it involves connecting batteries across it and measuring the wiper voltage. This output is adjusted to the desired value by loosening the screws and rotating the TPS slightly. This is not a hard job. Mark your old TPS for re-installation if you are unsure. I have changed the TPS on an 85 astro van and 93 f150. I did fine without adjusting either one.

i have a 88 olds delta 88 and i had to get 1 for mine and i had to take it to the garage to have a volt meter put on it.but once you got it adjusted in once, take a perm.marker and put a mark across it ,incase you take it off for some reason then you can put it back on the same place.i put mine on by myself, but like i said you need a volt meter.by the way it suppose to read 0.41 on the meter.by the way,do you know anyone has a volt meter, then you can do it yourself.just take 1 wire and ground it and take the other wire and put it in 1 of the term.,and turn the sensor till you get the right adjustment ,then tighten the sensor.good luck.

The TPS needs to be calibrated once it is installed. If they don't give you the procedure in the Haynes manual, you might need to look at a factory manual.
Some auto parts places like AutoZone will print out the relevant section of the factory manual for you.
Good luck!
